Sixty five volunteers helped us plant 207 native trees, shrubs and forbs (herbaceous perennials) on the Arroyo Mocho at Robertson Park on Saturday November 3rd!
We planted fourteen species including: California Buckeye (Aesculus californica), Mugwort (Artemisia douglasiana), California Ash (Fraxinus dipetala), Common Gum Plant (Grindelia camporum), Fremont Cottonwood (Populus fremontii), Black Sage (Salvia mellifera), Coyote Brush (Baccharis pilularis), California Black Walnut (Juglans californica), Western Sycamore (Platanus racemosa), Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia), Valley Oak (Quercus lobata), California Wild Rose (Rosa californica), and Black Elderberry (Sambucus nigra).
By planting these native plants we are working to bring nature back into our urban environments. Being in nature is incredibly good for us and spending two hours each week outside in nature has been proven to lower cortisol (a stress hormone). Native plants not only green our urban environments but they also provide crucial ecological services, such as pollution filtration and flood control.
Join us at our next event on Saturday November 10 th for more planting at Robertson Park (RSVP).
