On October 22nd, The Living Arroyos Program hosted a private volunteer event with the Sai Baba group. 24 volunteers removed 1,260 gallons of invasive plants along the Arroyo Mocho at Stanley Reach.Volunteers established a systematic process for removing the targeted plant species, cocklebur. A group of volunteers removed these large plants by hand, another group placed the plant material in trash bags, and the third group assisted the Living Arroyos crew in preparing bags for delivery to LARPD’s green waste bin.
This was the Sai Baba’s group first time attending a Living Arroyos Volunteer Workday! Parents worked with their children, ranging from 4 years old to 13 years old, while teaching them the value of community service.
We want to send a special thank you, to our first-time volunteers for choosing to improve our local streams!
