Living Arroyos was excited to host our first volunteer workday at Touriga Creek in Pleasanton, California. 12 volunteers assisted Living Arroyos staff in sheet mulching a targeted area of the site to sustainably reduce the presence of non-native, invasive ivy.
As our muscles grew tired from shoveling, transporting and spreading mulch; volunteers encouraged one another to keep working. At one time, a young volunteer motivated his mom, saying “Come on mom, you can do it…just a little more to go”. After all of our hard work, we looked over the site with a sense of pride, knowing that we’d made a positive impact on the local environment. Even a few deer came by to marvel at the transformed riparian area.
